Digipak Style ideas

This first digipak design is a simple two-panel design. There is no insert but there are lyrics printed on an image in the inside cover. Although, what really drew me to this design is the cut out style on the CD holder. It's something different and adds good effect to the design.

This six-panel design show consistency by keeping the same colour pattern and design across all six panels. This consistency makes the cover look professional and finished to a good standard. The disk also features a design relating the artist/album cover and adds an extra effect to the digipak. the printed lyrics on one panel and some notes from the band's lead singer on another give an added bonus to the album. It may also entice fans to buy it because they are interested to read what they have to say about the album.

The piano image consistent across all 3 panels provide a good effect to this digipak. What also appeals tome is the sleeve insert on the first panel. This provides the opportunity to add something extra to the album, maybe a poster or some notes from the band themselves.

Digipak Inspiration // Joe Ford

This album cover is from 'Garbage' by Bones. The first thing that drew me to this album cover was the white noise effect across the middle. It is designed to give the effect as if it's losing signal. It blurs out his face and conforms to the grainy effect of the rest of the image surrounding him. This effects is also seen in the single taken from this album, 'ribs'.

Again, the grainy, olden look to this album cover is what immediately appealed to me. the graffiti style writing in the background is used to good effect as it fits perfectly with the mise en scene of the image and also adds colour to the image which draws the attention of passers-by.

This album cover is from 'easy easy' by King Krule. The abstract artwork really strikes the attention at first glance and draw you in to look closer. The artist or designer may have took inspiration from an 'Escher' painting. The colours and way the image is worked with the reflection at the bottom definitely shows some similarities.

The simple nature of this album cover used for one of 'Mura Masa' singles really interested me at first glance. We see the grainy style used on the image used to great effect again and is something I am hoping to use in my own digipak.

Audience Profile

As we have decided on re creating and Indie song we have a good idea of who we are targeting to watch our video. At this moment, we have decided on covering 'Undercover Martyn' by Two Door Cinema Club.

After research via "UK Tribes", we have found the the type of people who would regularly listen to bands such as Two Door Cinema Club and others are known as 'Indie scenesters'. These (usually young) people are always on the look out for that fresh new band to brag about hearing first when they suddenly hit the mainstream market.
In order to conform to the interests of these people we will have to make careful decisions on the look of those featured in our video. For example, clothing is a big deal when attracting the right mise en scene for a music video. We will try and stay away from branded clothes and take inspiration from the original video on how to dress and style our band members. In the original, all three are wearing smart shoes with slim fitted trousers. This casual look detracts away from the usual 'jeans and trainers' and offers a smarter, more mature essence to the band. One of them has chosen to roll up the sleeves of his plain white shirt and the lead singer is dressed in a shirt and jacket. I believe the style that has been delivered is smart/casual which links to the video as it is not one to be taken seriously.

The age of our audience I believe will be between 17-21. Those who are at college or just finishing university as they are most likely to have a good passion and interest in both music and fashion; two things of great importance to Indie Scenesters.

We will try and replicate the styling shown on the band members in the original music video in our own version. This should then create the most appropriate mise en scene for each of the characters and give us the best chance of attracting the right audience to our video.
